- 1 cup 4C bread crumbs
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 24 ounces tomato sauce
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, 4C bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, minced garlic, egg, salt, and pepper. Gently mix until just combined.
- Take a small amount of the meat mixture and roll it into a ball about 1-1.5 inches in diameter. Place the formed meatballs on a clean plate or baking sheet. Repeat until all the meat mixture is used.
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs to the skillet, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Brown the meatballs on all sides, which should take about 5-7 minutes.
- Pour the tomato sauce into the skillet with the browned meatballs. Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet, and let the meatballs simmer in the sauce for at least 30 minutes, or up to an hour, stirring occasionally.
Notes
- Do not overmix the meat mixture, or the meatballs will be tough.
- Use a combination of ground beef and ground pork for richer flavor.
- Add a little milk or cream to the meat mixture for extra moisture.
- Make sure the skillet is hot before adding the meatballs to ensure proper browning.
