Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pre-made pie crust (or homemade)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 10 ounces fresh spinach, washed and roughly chopped
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup shredded Gruyere cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Spinach: Wash the spinach thoroughly and roughly chop. Set aside.
  2. SautΓ© the Aromatics: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until softened (5 minutes). Add minced garlic and cook until fragrant (1 minute).
  3. Combine the Filling: Add chopped spinach to the skillet and cook until wilted (3-5 minutes). Remove from heat and let cool slightly. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, heavy cream, milk, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Add the spinach mixture and stir to combine. Gently fold in shredded Gruyere cheese, if using.
  4. Bake to Perfection: Preheat oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C). Place the pie crust in a quiche dish or pie pan. Pour the spinach mixture into the crust. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the quiche is set and the crust is golden brown. Let cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Prevent a Soggy Crust: Blind bake the crust for 10-15 minutes before adding the filling.
  • Cheese Choices: Experiment with Swiss, cheddar, or feta.
  • Add-ins: Add mushrooms or bell peppers for extra flavor.
  • Resting Time: Allow the quiche to cool slightly before slicing.
