Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) of active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water (110°F)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup additional butter for brushing
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it stand for 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Stir until it forms a dough.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5 minutes until smooth. Place it in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise for 1 hour until doubled in size.
- Punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick. Cut into squares or triangles and roll tightly into breakfast roll shapes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Place rolls on a greased baking sheet, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Brush with melted butter before serving.
Notes
- Store fresh rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for 2 days.
- For longer storage, freeze in a freezer-safe bag and thaw when ready to enjoy.
- Pair rolls with butter, jam, or serve alongside eggs and fruit for a complete breakfast.
