  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (24 ounce) jar marinara sauce
  • 1 (12 ounce) package egg noodles
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Brown ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add onion and garlic, cooking until beef is browned and onions are translucent. Drain excess grease.
  3. Cook egg noodles according to package directions. Drain well.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine cooked egg noodles, browned ground beef mixture, marinara sauce, sour cream, 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  5. Pour the mixture into a 9×13 inch baking dish, spreading evenly.
  6. Sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the top.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly, and the casserole is heated through.
  8. Let it rest for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley, if desired.

Notes

  • Don’t overcook the noodles; cook them al dente.
  • Use good quality cheddar cheese for best flavor.
  • Add chopped bell peppers, mushrooms, or zucchini for added nutrients and flavor.
  • Adjust seasoning to your liking.
  • For a spicy kick, add red pepper flakes or hot sauce.
  • Substitute cream cheese for sour cream for a creamier texture.
  • Replace ground beef with lentils or plant-based crumbles for a vegetarian option.
  • Experiment with different cheeses such as Monterey Jack or Colby.
