- 4 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced

Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400Β°F (200Β°C). In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Cut in cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gently stir in heavy cream and vanilla extract until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and pat into a 1-inch thick circle. Cut out shortcakes with a biscuit cutter or knife.
- Place shortcakes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
- While shortcakes bake, combine sliced strawberries and sugar in a medium bowl. Let macerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Whip remaining heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
- Once shortcakes are cooled, split in half. Spoon macerated strawberries over bottom half, top with whipped cream, and place top half on top. Serve immediately.
